NOISE REDUCTION BARRIERS – WHY YOU NEED THEM

These days, it feels like no matter where you drive, you’re bound to encounter traffic delays due to construction projects.

Over the past decade, there’s been an increase in construction projects intersecting with our residential and work spaces, as governments strive to build new infrastructure and upgrade old road and rail networks right through our suburbs. If you’re unfortunate enough to live or work nearby, you’re likely to experience the annoyance of constant, and sometimes sleep-disrupting, noise.

In response to growing complaints from affected residents and workers, more councils are cracking down on construction noise. This has pushed builders to incorporate Noise Reduction Barriers as a crucial part of their projects, helping to reduce noise pollution, stay compliant, and in some cases, continue noisy work even after hours. Smaller domestic projects are also beginning to recognise the benefits of keeping noise levels low to maintain good relations with neighbours.

These barriers are made from durable vinyl with a combination of sound-reflecting and absorbing materials, along with acoustic felt to minimise sound reverberation. This mix of materials provides an effective and flexible lightweight barrier that can be easily attached to temporary structures like fencing and scaffolding. Depending on the noise frequency, these barriers can reduce up to 18dBA of airborne noise from construction or machinery.

The barriers are secured to temporary or permanent fences or scaffolds using heavy-duty cable ties and feature overlapping Velcro along the vertical edges to ensure a tight seal that blocks noise.

Because these barriers form a solid, non-permeable surface, installing them on temporary fences requires substantial support bracing and counterweights to prevent them from toppling in the wind. In some cases, this could mean using up to 20 temporary fence feet per panel for added stability.

The frustration of constant traffic and noise disruptions feels a bit more bearable when it’s your own Noise Reduction Barriers helping to get the job done.
